Molecular Neuroprotection in stroke

Based on expression profiling data, molecular mechanisms of neuroprotection were analysed using molecular techniques (PCR, serial analysis of gene expression, microarrays, PCR, Northern blotting, etc.) in combination with specific animal models (knockout mice, transgenic mice, etc.). Besides improvement of molecular techniques (Kannbley et al. 2003), specific genes identified by molecular means were analysed with respect to their functional role in cerebral ischemia (e.g. Trendelenburg et al. 2002) and with a current stress on the complement system.

Methods

PCR, SAGE (serial analysis of gene expression), hybridization based techniques (Northern, microarray), cloning techniques, data mining (local and webbased data sets), western blotting, immunohistochistry, animal models (knockout & transgenic mice).
